05/01/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Lola was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She poked her head out of her carrier when opened during intake, but appeared cautious. She allowed the counselor to pick her up and did not struggle, but she seemed wary of her surroundings. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – Easy to handle, growling but does not bite or swat, was gentle ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/25/17 Lying with a low body in the back of the kennel. She makes eye contact when spoken to and comes forward to sniff my hand. She tolerates petting along her head and body with wide eyes and flattened ears, licking her lips. 04/27/17 Her eyes widen and she growls when spoken to. I offer her tuna on the bear-claw and she sniffs it, tolerates petting along her head with flat ears while growling. 04/28/17 Low body posture, tense body. Very nervous. Ears flatten and she hisses when I open the door. Alert and hyper focused on my hand. Lip licks, wide eyes. Stressed out. Offered her some tuna and just sat with her, talking to her softly. Eventually inched forward for the tuna, tolerated petting. Closes her eyes, and grumbles a little bit. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Lola was lying down, resting upon approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Lola opens her eyes and blinks softly at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Lola lifts her head up and looks around. Reaction to touch: Lola sniffs the assessor’s hand and remains in place, allowing the assessor to pet her gently on her head. She becomes tense as the assessor strokes her gently along her back and she nips the assessor’s hand very gently, and then hisses lightly. She lip licks, but will continue to allow gentle petting on her head. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Tolerant RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, Adult Only Home – Lola tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
