Linden A1113792 is at risk due to behavior. She was initially extremely fearful in the care center, but has warmed up a considerable amount during her stay. She still hisses initially whenever approached for an interaction, but will lean in for petting and begin to purr. She occasionally comes out of her cubby and rolls over for attention, but when overwhelmed she will retreat back into her cubby and curl up.

06/04/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Linden was brought in without information on her behavior in her previous home. She allowed her finder to conduct all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – timid, tries slink away, puffed tail ENRICHMENT NOTES: 6/1/17 Curled up at back of cage, very anxious, eyes dilated. Repeating episodes of minor spasms, almost like hiccups, lasting a few minutes each. One hind foot appears to have tremors during these episodes. Seems a little wall-eyed. Hunched lower when pet, hissed twice. VALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Linden was lying down inside her litter box, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Linden squints her eyes and blinks softly, lip licking. Reaction to cage door opening: Linden becomes stiff and alert. Reaction to touch: Linden’s eyes becomes wide and she appears to be hiccupping when hand is extended. She shifts away very slightly, but remains immobile when pet gently. She remains tense and continues to squint her eyes, very uncomfortable. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy, Timid, Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – Linden has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may be uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only – Linden tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
