MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Tries to flee
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
11/02/17
Lying in bed with a low, tense body as babies are nursing. Eyes are wide and ears are flat. She tolerates petting along her head and body while remaining very still. Follows my hand with her eyes. Nervous – needs more time to adjust.
11/04/17
Lying down & nursing at the back of the kennel. Her eyes widen when I approached the kennel. She immediately tensed up and started looking around the room frantically. Very wary, rapid breathing. I was able to interact with her babies with no issues. She tolerates petting briefly before shifting away. Retreats into her litter box and curls up. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:
Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:
Lex was tense and lying down low, pressed up against the back of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Lex’s eyes widen and she becomes hyper focused on the assessor’s movements.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Lex is wary and remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:
Lex’s eyes dart around and she breathes more rapidly when the assessor extends his hand out. She flinches and leans back quickly when touched and tolerates petting with a very slow approach. Her eyes follow the assessor’s hand when pet along her body and she slowly shifts away when she’s done interacting.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Laid back
VOCAL:
Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE:
Skittish
Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Fearful
Potential challenges comments:
Lex has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Lex tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
