07/07/17 09:48 Basic Information: Leonardo is an 12 year old DSH cat. He was given to his previous owner by a neighbor when he was possibly 4 years old. He was surrendered because his owner is moving and unable to take him with her. The last time he went to the vet was last year. He has no injuries or health problems. Socialization: Around strangers Leonardo is friendly and outgoing and exuberant at play with adults. He’s spent time with another small dog and with him he was relaxed and affectionate. Behavior: Leonardo has never attempted to bite a person or animal. In car rides he is relaxed. He enjoys baths and being held. He isn’t bothered if his nails are trimmed, if his coat is brushed, if he is placed in a carrier or disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Leonardo is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, shy and talkative with a medium activity level. The two things his previous owner liked most about him were; he’s loving and playful. When his previous owner was home he would tend to follow them around. He liked to play with balls and was kept indoors. At night he slept on his previous owner’s bed. He at both wet and dry, 9 lives. He is litter box trained and used a hooded litter box with clumping litter. His scratching post was horizontal and made of carpet and he used it regularly. Behavior during intake: Leonardo allowed me to pet and collar him. He had a low body and avoided eye contact; he also made a snorting noise while taking pictures. He would walk away and attempted to jump from backdrop.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – OK at beginning of exam them became agitated and aggressive requiring netting to administer tx EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Leonardo was lying in his litter box, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Leonardo looks at the assessor with almond-shaped eyes and looks around. Reaction to cage door opening: Leonardo remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Leonardo meows softly and leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand. He accepts petting and begins to rub his head against his litter box. He lifts his rear when pet on his lower back, but also whines and becomes tense. He doesn’t seem to mind rubs on his head and begins to purr. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Calm RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parent – Leonardo interacts with the observer and appreciates attention, but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may need time to warm up to his new home and family. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
