*** SAFE 02/15/18 *** Introducing Lovely Wallflower Housemates Kate and Leo @BACC! LEO is a handsome kitty who is nervous in the shelter. He needs a furever home and some follow up dental care.
BROOKLYN CENTER
Hello, my name is Leo. My animal id is #20166. I am a male gray cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 07-Feb-2018.
ZIP Code From: 11385
Leo is at risk for behavior concerns. Leo is very fearful in the care center, and obviously uncomfortable with touch and petting, flinching whenever this is attempted. We suggest that Leo would be best suited to a cat experienced, adult only, home. Medically, Leo has some mild dental disease, but otherwise presents as a healthy cat.

Lying in back of kennel with a flat, tense body. Tolerates petting along head and body while remaining very still and avoiding eye contact. Ears are tilted. Needs more time to ajdust.
02/10/18
Lying down completely flat on top the kuranda bed. Pupils dilate and his ears bend slightly. He lip licks and tries to shift away, looking for an exit when I extend my hand out. He flinches when touched, seems very uncomfortable with petting and starts to vocalize. I offered treats but he wasn’t interested.
02/11/18
Lying on top of kuranda bed with a low, tense body, pupils dilated. Raises head to sniff bear-claw as it reaches towards him and tolerates slow, gentle petting along head and body while turning head slowly to watch the claw, ears tilted. Not interested in treats at the moment. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned

Reaction to cage door opening:: Leo flinches and looks around the kennel frantically for an exit.
Reaction to touch:: Leo lip licks and tries to shift away, looking for an exit as the assessor extends his hand out. He flinches when touched, seems very uncomfortable with petting and starts to vocalize.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Leo has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Leo tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
