07/11/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Leni was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Initially allowed handling. Started low growling during exam, escalated to growling, hissing, swatting EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Leni was relaxed and rolling around playfully at the back of the cage. Reaction when softly spoken to: Leni stretches out and reaches out towards the assessor with soft paws. Reaction to cage door opening: Leni is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Leni perks up and leans in for petting and rubs along her body. Her tail rises, she head butts and enjoys being pet. Reaction to being picked up: Leni tensed up, hissed then quickly whipped around and bit the assessor when attempting to pick her up. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Uncomfortable with pick up – Leni did not appear to like being picked up during their behavior evaluation. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend any future home with children be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking her up, especially while she is still adjusting to her new home. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced cat parent – Leni may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents and any furture home with children should conduct a thorough interaction.
