02/21/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Leanna was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cat hiding under, cage rearranged, no change, recently cleaned, other Reaction to assessor: Leanna rushes forward quickly to greet the assessor. Reaction when softly spoken to: Leanna is calm, relaxed and gently brushes her cheeks against the kennel door. Reaction to cage door opening: Leanna is calm and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Leanna rubs up, solicits attention and allows petting all over her body. The end of her tail starts to flick every time the assessor rubs her. After a couple soft passes her tail thrashes and she quickly whips around trying to swat. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 02/20/17 Really moves quickly and busily in her cage, wide eyes, zooms to the front when I approach, sticks nose into cage bars. Dashes away when I extened my hand. Keeps darting around cage when I open cage door, elusive, grumbles a little when I extend my hand to her, didn’t force any touching, she didn’t seem receptive to it. 02/21/17 Zooms right to the front when I approach her kennel today, bright, alert, eyes and overall body posture softer today. Stays right at front when I open cage door, sticks her head into my hand, allows petting and head rubs, briefly solicits more then races away, comes back quickly, seems overstimulated so I end the interaction. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Striking, screaming throughout exam ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, Sweet, Affectionate POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: _x_ Overstimulation – Leanna is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Leanna becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Experienced, adult home only- Leanna solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly. Due to her getting overstimulated we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home. Leanna tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children.
