03/16/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/16/17 08:25 LC is friendly and outgoing towards strangers. She’s never spent time around children but plays a mixture of exuberant and gently with adults. She’s never been around other cats or dogs but has never bitten another animal or human. During car rides, LC is relaxed. She struggles when it’s bath time and has never had her nails trimmed or been brushed before so it’s unknown how she would react. She enjoys when her owner picks her up and holds her. She isn’t bothered when placed into a carrier and when awoken from her slumber. When she’s awoken, LC looks up at her owner. Her owner says it’s because of her curiosity. LC is friendly, affectionate, playful, talkative, and observant. She has a medium activity level and when she’s ready to play enjoys string, wand toys, and catnip. Her owner loves how she’s always rubbing up against her. Her favorite activity is this circular game where she tries to catch the stuffed toys inside. When her owner is home, LC follows her around and sits on her. She’s been kept indoors only and sleeps in her bed in the living room. She’s mostly litterbox trained and will only go outside the litterbox if it is very dirty. She uses an uncovered litterbox full of clumping litter. LC loves to scratch on boxes and her vertical scratching post made of smooth wood with cloth. She eats Meow Mix throughout the day, her owner always refills her bowl when it’s empty. Her favorite treats are Greenies. On intake, LC allowed counselor to collar but when it was time to take her out of her crate she hissed so counselor did not handle to not stress her out more.

03/20/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Name and A#: LC- A#1106263 Date: 3/20/2017 KNOWN HISTORY: Lived Indoors Previously lived with: 1 Adult Behavior toward strangers: gentle Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward cats: unknown Behavior toward dogs: unknown Bite or Scratch history: None Litter box training: Y Energy level/descriptors: Medium activity level MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: fractious, needed to use net, limited exam due to temperment ENRICHMENT NOTES: Hunched in litter box, stiff posture, eyes dilated. Started hissing, growling, and yowling when spoken to. Left alone for now. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Was asleep Reaction when softly spoken to: Did not move remained in sleep position Reaction to cage door opening: Became watchful, looking around meowing and lip licking Reaction to touch: Allowed assess-a-hand for a short period then began to swat and hiss Reaction to being picked up: Will not allow ACTIVITY LEVEL: Hard to discern VOCAL: Could not discern CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful – LC has displayed fearful behavior during her stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Please note that this cat had a hemorrhage and was recovering from a surgical procedure at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior, but she was noted to have acclimated some during her stay in the care center, however, after the procedure she has started to display distance-increasing behaviors again. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Placement with a New Hope partner – LC is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
