02/05/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Kyle was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He did not allow handling during intake, displaying distance-increasing behaviors when appraoched. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Curled up on blanket, calm and relaxed Reaction when softly spoken to: Kyle remains curled up, calm and relaxed, looks at assessor with soft eyes, purrs softly Reaction to cage door opening: Lifts up and moves back, hisses, body is tense Reaction to touch: Moves away from attempts to touch, does not allow, hisses, may swat ENRICHMENT NOTES: 02/05/17 Resting quietly on his blanket, appears to be in rough shape. Looks to be a front polydactyl, but paws appear to be swollen, not certain. Wounds noted to paws/toes in initial on 2/2, doesn’t look like there’s been a follow up. Looks up quietly and softly when I talk to him, stays curled up, he even purrs a little while I chat with him. When I open cage door, though, he becomes tense and backs away, not receptive to any handling. Sprayed some Feliway and gave him some treats. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: _x_ Placement with a New Hope partner – Kyle is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. Please note that this cat may have a medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves.
