Kristy is at risk for medical reasons. Kristy has multiple mammary tumors, one of which is ulcerated. These will need urgent veterinary treatment. Due to her condition, we have not formally assessed Kristy’ behavior, but she has not displayed any concerning tendencies whilst she has been in the shelter.

Hx: Multiple mammary tumors, including one that’s ulcerated, and flea dermatitis. Received Convenia this morning. Good appetite today and yesterday. S: Quiet, alert, curled up in the back of her kennel, eyes dilated. (There is a barking dog in the ward.) O: QAR, estimated 5% dehydrated based on slightly decreased skin turgor. BCS 4.5/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: No discharge OU, nose. Clean adult teeth, mild gingivitis. PLNs: Not significantly enlarged. H/L: Eupnic, not ausculted Abd: Not palpated M/S/I: Thin fur coat across entire body. Crusts on dorsal neck. UG: Female, multiple mammary tumors. One is ulcerated – mild moist discharge. Neuro: Alert and appropriate, no sign neurological deficiencies A: 1. Mammary tumors, one ulcerated and slightly infected 2. Thin fur and crusts on neck – presumed flea dermatitis 3. Appears stressed Short-term prognosis: Poor P: 1. Start Simbadol 0.3 ml SQ SID x10 days 2. Gave heating pad 3. Recommend FNA or biopsy before proceeding with excisional biopsies or spay 1088

Upon intake, Kristy allowed pets on the head and allowed to be collared. Kristy would try to flee when given the chance. Kristy was not bothered when I carried her and placed her into a kennel.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Kristy was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior – compliant for exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Crouched towards back, a little wide-eyed, looking around. Lay in place when door opened, allowed, then started to lean into pets, extended neck for throat rubs.

Reaction to assessor:: Kristy remains tense, crouched position in the litter box during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Kristy becomes alert with eyes wide open, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Kristy remains immobile in place.
Reaction to touch:: Kristy sniffs the assessor’s hand then places head down while accepting the touch. She took some time to warm up then enjoys chin rubs.
Reaction to being picked up:: She becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
