Hello, my name is Knopch. My animal id is #15907. I am a male white cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 11-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Knopch is at risk for behavior concerns (Experience determination). Knopch has been fearful in care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior. Knopch accepts some petting, but will show discomfort when the cat has had enough attention.

No History : Owner surrender Subjective: BARH Observed Behavior – Tense, hissing, tries to flee, examined in net Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = WNL R = WNL BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted Oral Exam: Very brief exam – mild to moderate staining, pink mm PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Apparently healthy Plan: Continue to monitor while at BACC Prognosis: Excellent SURGERY: OK for surgery

during intake knopch was quiet. knopch allowed to be scanned but became tense and tried to flee. knopch allowed limited handling.

Basic Information:: knopch is a male white a black DSH. Owners have had knopch for 6 months and are surrendering because of allergies.
How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers knopch is friendly and outgoing knopch plays gently with adults.
How is this cat around children?: knopch has lived with children ages 2 and 6. knopch is affectionate with the children and play gently.
How is this cat around other cats?: knopch has not lived with other cats
How is this cat around dogs?: knopch has not lived with dogs.
Behavior Notes: in car rides knopch is quiet. knopch isnt bothered when getting warm water bathes. knopch is use to having his nails trimmed and isnt bothered when being brushed. knopch allows to be picked up and held but will sometimes jump out of your arms. knopch is afraid of being placed in a carrier and will struggle to go in.
Bite history:: knopch has no known bite history.

For a New Family to Know: knopch was described as affectionate and quiet. When home with knopch he will follow you around. knopch enjoys playing with balls. knopch is litter box trained with an uncovered litter box. knopch eats wet and dry food and usually has fish flavored food. knopch did not have a scratching post and recently started to scratch on the carpet. when its time for bed knopch likes to sleep in the bed.

He doesn’t mind being picked up but gets a little nervous when placed in a carrier
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Tense, hissing, tries to flee
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/12/17 Lying in back of kennel with a tense body. Tolerates petting along head and body while flattening ears and squinting eyes, body becoming tenser. Turns head to watch the bear-claw. Needs more time to adjust. 12/13/17 Crouched near the back of the kennel, paws folded under body, tail wrapped at his side. Curious, leans forward to sniff hand. Accepts gentle petting on his head and along his body. Enjoys cheeks rubs- closes his eyes and leans in for attention. He turns around and slowly watches the assessor’s hand when pet along his back.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Knopch was lying down and alert in the back of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Knopch keeps his tail wrapped around his body, lip licks and doesn’t come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Knopch is alert.
Reaction to touch:: Knopch leans forward to sniff the assessor’s hand when approached. He squints when touched, but slowly starts to warm up with attention. The end of his tail thumps, but he leans in for cheek rubs and appreciates attention with a slow approach. He lip licks and raises his paw up as a warning when he’s done interacting.
