05/25/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Calm, Independent MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 5/17/17-Observed Behavior – tense, allows exam ENRICHMENT NOTES: 5/17/17- Laying at the back, head in corner, eyes dilated, whiskers straight out. Became alert when door opened, eyes dilated further. Sniffed hand, then held immobile when pet, minor lip licking. Showed no interest in treats. 5/18/17- Resting on top of bed today, alert and watchful, eyes dilated, whiskers straight forward. Held immobile when door opened. Initially tolerated, then started to lean into pets, remained wary. Ate treats when left alone. 5/21/17- Seems particularly anxious today, possibly due to vocally fractious cat nearby. Sitting up under kuranda bed, grumbling, eyes dilated, occasional hiss. Sat in place when door opened, started to whine and hiss when attempted touch. Returned slow blink after door closed. 5/22/17- Resting on top of kuranda bed today. Became tense when door opened, eyes dilated. Lay in place, leaned and arched into pets! Remained wary, started grumbling quietly when door closed, then ate treats. 5/23/17- On top of bed again, eyes not dilated, but still seems unsure. Stiffened and eyes became dilated when door opened. Started eating offered treats, hissed every time I attempted pets, then started grumbling. Later, at the front, looking around, eyes still dilated. Hissed when offered hand. 5/24/17- Resting on top of bed, head down, pretending to sleep. Sat up when given treats. Tolerated brief pets on top of head while eating. Repeatedly hissed and leaned away when pet anywhere else, eyes dilated, tense posture. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Kloe looks neutral, sitting upright at the back during the approach. Reaction to cage door opening: Kloe remains in place alert with eyes oval. Reaction to touch: Kloe accepts the touch and began to lean into the assessor’s hand. However, after a few strokes she stands with tail up and began to randomly hiss while meowing during the stroke. BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Kloe tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
