Hello, my name is Kitty. My animal id is #17563. I am a female gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old. – P

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Limited, Kitty was in a home with many other cats. We have no information about her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Vocal, nervous but allows exam.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 1/4/18 Crouched at back behind litter box, eyes dilated and darting. Flinched and lowered head when door opened. Held completely immobile when pet, no response at all.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Kitty is crouched in the litterbox, she glances up at the assessor but does not hold eye contact.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Remains immobile.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Remains immobile.
Reaction to touch:: Kitty remains frozen when the assessor extends her hand. She does not give warning signals and does not retreat, but she is clearly uncomfortable with interaction.
Reaction to being picked up:: Not done out of concern for Kitty’s stress level.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Talkative
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: It is difficult to get a good read on Kitty’s behavior at this point and without any known history. In the care center she has been shy but tolerant. We would anticipate similar behavior upon first arriving in a new home, and caution that we cannot be certain of Kitty’s level of sociability or comfort around humans. She has allowed touch without escalating but has not been comfortable. She will likely need an acclimation period to warm up to her new home and new family at her own pace. We recommend experienced adopters prepared to give her this time.
