KITOURA – 26448
Safe - 5-15-2018 Brooklyn
SAFE 5/15/18 Kitoura is one beautiful kitty! If her emerald eyes, pink nose, and adorable orange/brown spots don’t win you over then her personality sure will! She was a bit shy when she first arrived at the Brooklyn Care Center, but she’s warmed up a lot and now allows most petting. She still shows possible signs of over stimulation (tail waving back and forth, etc), but generally is a very sweet lady.

Hissing, and displaying distance increasing behaviors
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
04/29/18
Lying in back of kennel with a low, tense body, pupils dilated. Tail is wrapped around body. She tolerates petting along her head while beginning rapid breathe and turning head to watch my hand with wide eyes. Vocalizes loudly as bear-claw passes along her back. Uncomfortable with touch at this time – needs more time to adjust.
04/30/18
Crouched on top of kuranda bed, body tense and tail curled around feet. Makes eye contact with a tense face, pupils dilated. Vocalizes very softly when spoken to. She sniffs the treat I place down in front of her but doesn’t eat it until I lower the cage cover and walk away. Leans away from my hand and raises paw with flattened ears when I attempt petting. Nervous and skittish – needs more time to adjust.
05/01/18
Crouched in back of kennel, eyes wide and tail wrapped around body. She vocalizes softly when spoken to, then steps forward as I reach my hand towards her. She leans in for petting, back arched and tail raised, then backs away. Unsure, steps forward to solicit attention and backs away as my hand passes along her back. Nervous but unsure. Not too interested in treats. Showing improvement – has potential to warm up.
05/03/18
Lying in back of kennel, ears forward and eyes alert. Pupils are dilated. She scoots forward as I reach towards her and greets my hand with a soft head-butt. Allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and standing up, back arched and tail raised half way. She steps forward with continued petting, then walks towards the back of her kennel to scent mark her kuranda bed. Turns around to nudge my hand. Pupils remain dilated for duration of session. Sweet girl – showing improvement! Did well today. Ate all treats given.
05/07/18
Sitting upright in back of kennel, body neutral and ears forward. Tail is wrapped around feet. She stands up and arches her back as I open the kennel door, then steps forward to head-butt my hand hesitantly, tail curled and raised half way. She allows further petting and gains confidence, stepping forward and vocalizing softly. Sweet girl, turns head to head-butt my hand. Tail begins to wave back and forth with continued petting but she show’s no further reaction for today’s session. Doing well! Has potential to become overstimulated.
Cage Condition:
Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:
Kitoura was curled up tight on top the kuranda bed. She looks over at the assessor with large, dilated eyes and keeps her tail wrapped around her body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Kitoura stress meows and looks around the kennel slowly, scanning her surroundings.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Kitoura tenses up and continues to stress meow.
Reaction to touch:
Kitoura lip licks and shifts her body weight when the assessor approaches. Her pupils are dilated and she seems very skittish, but leans in and sniffs the assessor’s hand. She appears to be displaying conflicted behaviors; leaning in for attention, accepting petting and giving head butts, then quickly whips back and swats when pet for too long. She raises her body up and appears to appreciate attention, but isn’t confident and breathes rapidly when pet for an extended period of time.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Mellow
VOCAL:
Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE:
Skittish

Fearful

Kitoura has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
