08/21/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Kim was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. Upon intake, Kim was friendly and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: friendly EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Kim was laying in the back of her cubby in her litter box. She makes eye contact with the assessor and appears alert. Reaction when softly spoken to: Kim continues to lay in her litter box but watches assessor closely. Reaction to cage door opening: Kim sits up and wraps her tail tightly around her body and hisses at assessor. Reaction to touch: Kim retreats and moves away from assessor. She tries to hide in the corner of her kennel and continues to hiss. When assessor tried to pet Kim again, she raises her paw as a warning. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back, Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy, Independent RECOMMENDATIONS: Placement with a New Hope partner- Kim is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
