04/15/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/15/17 15:43 Basic information: Kika is a 3 yrs. old female domestic short hair mix. The owner surrendered Kika because her behavior has become unpredictable. Kika has no health problems and the owner has not taken her to a vet. Socialization: The owner states that around strangers Kika is shy and often hides. Kika has lived with children between the ages of 13 and 16, she clam around them but does not play with them. She has never been around dogs or other cats so the owner has no idea how Kika would react around them. Kika has never bitten and scratched the owner’s daughter on 4/14/17 (Kika charged at the daughter and started biting and scratching for no foreseen reason). Behavior: Kika has never been bathed, had her nails trimmed. She does not mind having his coat brushed but does not like to be picked up or placed in a cat carrier (she will struggle and swat the person). For a new family to know: The owner describes Kika as a shy and somewhat fearful cat with a medium activity level. Kika has never played with toys; she lives mostly indoors and sleeps anywhere in the house that he wants. In the home Kika will follow the owner around and prefers to stay in same room as the owner (mostly hidden). Kika eats various name brand dry cat food and is feed two times a day. She is litter box trained and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Kika has never been given a scratching post so the owner does not know if he will use it or not. Behavior during intake: During intake Kika was somewhat tense with stiff body, he allowed us to scan (-) put on collar, photographed (in kennel) and placed in cat kennel. However when attempting to put on collar Kika began to growl and hiss at the handler.

Reaction when softly spoken to: Kika continues to lay in her cat den and look at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Kika remains calm and relaxed. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy, Sweet POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: – Fearful Kika has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Kika tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may have some behavioral issues that will need to be addressed in the home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
