The previous owner has known Kesha for 8 years however has been taking care of her for the past 6 months. Unfortunately due to Kesha’s reported litter box issues, she could not be kept. I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 30-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – not house trained.

Upon intake Kehsa had a tense body. She then became calmer once petted on the head and body. She attempted to hide but allowed all handling and being collared. She allowed counselor to place her in a carrier and had a healthy appetite for treats.

If yes, Please elaborate:: Kesha has been reported to urinate outside of her litter box when ever she is left home alone.

How is this cat around strangers?: Around strangers she is described as shy for a few minutes and plays gentle.
How is this cat around children?: She has not been socialized with children so this behavior is unknown.
How is this cat around other cats?: Around cats she is described as fearful. She was introduced to a kitten and the previous owner said that Kesha hid for a month. She would barely eat and would only play gentle for about a minute and then hid again.
How is this cat around dogs?: She has been socialized with a Dachshund and is described as respectful, tolerant and plays gentle.
Behavior Notes: Kesha is known to have litter box accidents when she is left alone and will sleep during car rides. She isn’t bothered with being given a bath, having her nails trimmed, being placed in a carrier or being picked up and held. She enjoys being brushed and petted.
Bite history:: She has no known bite histories.

Medical Notes: Kesha is reported to urinate around the home when she is left alone. She was brought to the vet about 3 weeks ago for a checkup and came out healthy.
For a New Family to Know: Kesha is described as friendly, playful, mellow, aloof, shy, independent and quiet. She enjoys having her belly rubbed, likes to be in the same room as you, likes paper balls, ate Purina Dry food once a day, had an automatic litter box with clumping litter and scratching posts made of rough rope.

Behavior toward cats: Around cats she is described as fearful. She was introduced to a kitten and the previous owner said that Kesha hid for a month. Bite or Scratch history: none Litter box training: • Kesha previous owners report that she was eliminating urinating outside the litter box. He believes that after her owner left and moved out she becomes fearful of being a lone and will urinate on his things out of spite because she was left alone. Kesha was seen by a veterinarian and has no known medical issues. The previous owners report adding litter boxes, changing the litter, uncovering the boxes, using Feliway, consulting a behaviorist, etc. but the inappropriate elimination behavior has continued. We advise potential adopters to be aware that this behavior may continue in a home environment, and that they be comfortable with management and modification techniques for this behavioral challenge. Reaction to touch:: Kesha was hesitant at first, then slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand and began to lean into the petting.
Reaction to being picked up:: She becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
