**SAFE 04/23/16** A volunteer writes: Little Katie has an exotic and lovely look about her. She is very shy, and won’t come out of the back of the kennel except for treats and soft food. But she is purr-fectly willing to let you pet her, and even lifts her pretty head to let you rub her chin. She is still a skinny little thing, but you can tell that she will be a real beauty once she is welcomed into a family and taken care of. She just needs a patient and loving human companion to accompany her on this journey. Are you ready for a trip?….CAN YOU BE THERE FOR SHY & SCARED KATIE TONIGHT?? Please consider this little lady who needs time and TLC…..If you need assistance, email [email protected]

03/26/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/26/16 17:37 Katie is a 4 year old brown tabby and white female domestic shorthair cat who is being surrendered because the owner wants her to have a better home. Katie has been in the home almost 4 years. Katie lived with 3 adults and 1 other cat. When visitors come to the home she will flee and may not emerge till they leave unless it is a familiar guest. Owner reports that recently Katie has not been receptive to the other cat in the home and will ward him off with hissing if he is seeking interaction. Previously they were both playful and receptive to one another. Katie is an indoor cat who has a closed litter with clumping litter. Katie will struggle for a bath and a nail trim. She will flee from brushing but does not mind being picked up. She may struggle to be placed in a carrier and does not enjoy a car ride. Katie likes string and wand toys to play swattig games with. She uses a vertical scratching post with carpet but will also scratch wood furniture in the home. When the family is home she likes to be where they are and when home alone she is well behaved. Katie likes dry food. Upon intake Katie was very still for introduction and slightly tense for handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (negative) collar and photograph. Katie was slightly resistant to being replaced to the carrier.

03/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Katie lived with three adults and one other cat. When visitors come to the home she would flee and did not emerge till they leave unless it is a familiar guest. Katie has not been receptive to the other cat in the home and will ward him off with hissing if he is seeking interaction. Previously they were both playful and receptive to one another. Katie is an indoor cat who has a closed litter with clumping litter. Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Katie and at the time she was sitting near the front of the cage. Katie was nervous but allowed petting. Reaction to assessor: Katie does not come to front but remains neutral When spoken quietly: Katie does not come to front but remains neutral Reaction to door cage opening: Katie remains motionless Reaction to touch: Katie is tense and uncomfortable when touched Try picking cat up: Katie is tolerant of this type of handling but tense. Behavior Determination: Experience At the time of the assessment Katie was displaying fearful behavior; does not seek attention from the assessor and becomes alert when the kennel was open. Remains motionless as I started to get closer but after a steady slow approach using soft voices she relaxed a little. I was able to pet her and interact with her in a limited way. I was also able to pick her up and although she was tense no fractious behavior was display. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
