I came into the shelter as a stray on 13-Feb-2018.

Basic Information:: Jojo is a two years old, orange tabby and white male cat. He was given to his previous owner as a gift from their son when Jojo was a kitten.
Previously lived with:: 2 Adults
How is this cat around strangers?: Jojo was shy for a few minutes around strangers. He plays somewhat rough with adults.
How is this cat around children?: Jojo has never been around children.
How is this cat around other cats?: Jojo has not been socialized with other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?: Jojo lived with a 4 years old male medium sized mixed breed. He was affectionate towards the dogs and the two got along.
Behavior Notes: Jojo meowed very little and never scratched furniture or people. He was never bath and his nails were never trimmed. He enjoyed his coat brushed. He struggled when being picked up and held. He was not bothered by being place inside a carrier or disturbed while sleeping.

For a New Family to Know: Jojo was described as an affectionate, confident, and independent cat. He ran around the house for a few minutes before growing tired. He slept on his owners’ bed and his diet consisted of dry Meow Mix. His litter box was covered and filled with tidy cats/arm & hammer litter. He had a scratching post which he used often. It was made out of cardboard and sand paper.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Jojo was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 2/13/18 Observed Behavior -calm, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 2/14/18 Sitting up in litter box, pressed to back wall, stiff posture, eyes dilated. Sat in place when door opened, sniffed treats but didn’t eat. Tolerated a few pets, then put ears sideways, hissed. 2/15/18 Curled up asleep in litter box. Woke on approach, lay in place, eyes dilated. Started hissing quietly, continued hissing and lip licking when door opened, then tried to swat assess-a-hand when offered treats.
Cage Condition:: No change
Reaction to assessor:: Jojo remains tense, crouched position hiding in the cage cubby.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Jojo becomes alert with eyes wide open, pupils dilated.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Jojo looks around, sits upright while increasing distance, hissing.
Reaction to touch:: Jojo slowly sniffs the assessor’s hand and lip licks while hissing. He avoids contact and swats the hand stopping the interaction.

Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Jojo is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
