*** SAFE 10/15/17 *** Jessie was brought to us because she is scratching on the furniture and the owner did not want her to destroy their new furniture. She is nervous in her kennel, can be petted however tends to move away from us. She is more confused as to why she is here. She is NOT aggressive in any way in this shelter.
Staten Island Center
Hello, my name is Jessie. My animal id is #8551. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks i am about 4 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 01-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – too active.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Jessie is at-risk with an adult only determination. She appears calm during her stay in the shelter, but she becomes stiff and alert when approached for interaction and hisses once touched. She tolerates gentle petting with a slow approach, but her ears tilt sideways and she appears very uncomfortable. She relaxes once interaction ends and blinks slowly at the assessor.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 7.6 lbs
Pre-surgical exam, anesthesia, and surgery performed by ASPCA. Green linear tattoo placed on ventral abdomen
BARH scan negative female cat allows handling 4 yrs old mild tartar clean EEN clean coat BCS 5/9 NOSF
Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Assessment Date: 10/5/2017 Retest Date: Retest Reason: Next Test Date: KNOWN HISTORY: Jessie was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. Cage Condition: Cage is recently cleaned Reaction to assessor: Jessie remains tense, crouched position hiding in her cage cubby during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jessie becomes alert with eyes wide open. Reaction to cage door opening: Jessie distance increases, stiffen up, alert with eyes dilated. Reaction to touch: Jessie accepts the touch while shrinking in place with no further interest with the interaction. Reaction to being picked up: Unable to perform do to behavior. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish Independent POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: None BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experienced, adult only Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care Jessie center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to her new home and family at her own pace.
