ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/20/17 Lying in litterbox with a flat, tense body. Raises head and hisses when spoken to, then stands up and leans away as the bear-claw reaches towards her as she continues to hiss, ears tilted. Tolerates petting along head and body while turning to watch the bear-claw with wide eyes, ears flattening further as she hisses. Needs more time to adjust. 12/21/17 Sitting in back of kennel, body tense and tail wrapped around feet. She head-butts my hand abruptly as I reach towards her, then stands up with her tail half raised. Begins to growl with continued petting and turns her head to watch the bear-claw with flattened ears. Conflicted. Has potential to warm up. 12/22/17 Sitting up in the back of the kennel with her tail wrapped around her body. She comes forward when coaxed- tail curved, curious of surroundings. She sniffs then gently head butts and stands on her hind legs. Appreciates attention briefly, then backs away and hisses 12/24/17 Sitting upright in back of kennel, ears forward and tail wrapped around feet. Avoids eye contact. She stands up, tail raised halfway as I open the kennel door and allows petting along her head and body initially while leaning in with energy. She begins to grumble with continued petting and turns to bite the air next to the bear-claw in warning. Will solicit attention, then becomes tense and begins to stress meow and vocalize once touched. Not interested in treats at the moment. May be showing signs of petting induced aggression. May be conflicted. Needs more time to adjust. 12/26/17 Crouched in back of kennel, eras forward. She leans in abruptly when touched with the bear-claw and stands up to allow petting along her head and body, tail raising half way. She remains in back of her kennel and allows petting while leaning in for a couple of minutes before turning her head and growling. She then sits upright, tip of tail clicking back and forth with ears slightly tilted. Not interested in treats today. Doing better today – allows petting and gives clear signs when she’s had enough.

She sniffs, then leans forward and head butts the assessor’s hand when pet on her head. Her tail flickers after 2 soft passes, her ears flatten and she starts to growl . She seems to be displaying conflicted behaviors when pet for an extended period of time.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Curious,Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Jelly tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
