Their owner surrendered them because she recently had twins who were highly allergic to the cats. These sweethearts have been at the shelter for a while now and frankly we cannot understand why someone hasn’t scooped them up and taken them home. They are a bonded pair and should go together. Now they have a kitty cold and the ACC says they must go now!! PLEASE OPEN YOUR HOME TO THESE SWEET SENIORS TONIGHT – YOU WILL BE REWARDED WITH DOUBLE THE ENDLESS PURRS AND KITTY CUDDLES – MUST RESERVE BY NOON!!!

Hello, my name is Jay Z. My animal id is #10712. I am a desexed male black tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 13 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 25-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.
Jay Z is a geriatric boy who at risk due to an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. He will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no behavior concerns for him at this time (Average determination). He came in with his sibling, Beyonce, and they enjoy spending time together – but they also remain social on their own and can be adopted together or separately.

Basic Information:: Jay Z is a 13 year old neutered domestic short hair that the owner got from a Petco in July of 2005. The owner is surrendering because she just had twins who are allergic to Jay Z and his litter mate. Jay Z’s last visit to the vet was July of this year for routine vaccines.
Previously lived with:: 2 adults, 4 children, and a litter mate.
How is this cat around strangers?: Jay Z is friendly around strangers, he walks right up to them seeking attention.
How is this cat around children?: Jay Z is very relaxed and affectionate with children, always playing gently.
How is this cat around other cats?: Jay Z has lived his whole life with his litter mate and he is relaxed and respectful with her, always playing exuberantly. Jay Z and his litter mate do everything together.
How is this cat around dogs?: Jay Z has never been around dogs.
Behavior Notes: Jay Z meows at first when he is put into a carrier but then he settles down and enjoys the ride.Jay Z meows a little at first when he is bathed but then he allows it. The owner has not recently trimmed Jay Z’s nails and she has never disturbed him while he is sleeping. Jay Z enjoys being brushed. When the owner puts Jay Z in her lap, he rubs his head against her to be petted. Jay Z meows when he is put into a carrier.
Bite history:: Jay Z has never bitten or scratched another animal or a person.

For a New Family to Know: Jay Z is described as friendly, playful, and very lovable. The owner’s favorite thing about Jay Z is how friendly he is with the children. Jay Z’s favorite thing to do is play with bottle caps like they are hockey pucks. When the owner is home, Jay Z remains in a favorite spot with Beyonce. Jay Z likes wand toys and catnip toys. Jay Z has been kept indoors only. Jay Z sleeps in the owner’s son’s bed with him. Jay Z is fed Blue Buffalo grain free dry food, 1 cup twice a day. Jay Z enjoys Temptations treats. Jay Z uses a covered litter box with crystal litter. Jay Z scratches on his cat tower, it is made out of rough rope and cardboard.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Dozing in litter box, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body, leaned into pets and closed eyes again. Likes throat rubs.

Reaction to assessor:: Jay looks neutral, lying down in his cage cubby during the approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Jay becomes alert with normal shape eyes.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Jay stretches in place with ears relaxed, ears erect and forward.
Reaction to touch:: Jay leans into the assessor’s hand, purrs, and appreciates the petting on the head and body.
Reaction to being picked up:: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage.
