SAFE 3/1/16 A volunteer writes: Jax has a round face with two spots under his nose which makes him look so distinguished. He will come to greet you, give him head rubs, he’ll roll on his side and chill with you while you pet him. He is just enjoying your company and your love. He is a sweet boy who can become a good friend. So come check him out and see that it is worth spending a little time with him.
A volunteer writes: Jax is a tuxie with a little white bow tie on his nose, making him even more adorable than the average tuxedo cat. I found that he absolutely loves wet food, and after feeding him some, I petted him to his great delight. Maybe that made him more comfortable with me, because he let me pet him while he purred in contentment. His behavior evaluation notes that he should ideally be adopted by a person who is an experienced cat companion, but I didn’t sense any fear from Jax; maybe he’s just getting used to being pampered in the shelter. After all, having fresh water, yummy food and a soft bed are all good, and if a nice lady (that would be me!) tells you what a handsome young man you are while she rubs behind your ears, that’s even better.

Behavior – Experienced Home
Our enrichment facilitator has interacted with Jax and at the time he was at the back, rolls over, allows cheek and necks rubs. Jax loves treats and inches forward slowly with his tail up.
Reaction to assessor: Jax does not come to front but looks at you calm and relaxed
When spoken quietly: Jax does not come to front but looks at you calm and relaxed
Reaction to door cage opening: Jax remains soft and relaxed
Reaction to touch: Jax allows petting and attention
Try picking cat up: Jax is not tolerant of this type of handling. When attempted Jax backed up and hissed
Behavior Determination: Experience
Jax was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. At the time of the assessment he was displaying friendly behavior, did not come to the front of the kennel but interacts with the Assessor, appreciates attention, and tolerates all petting. Jax did not allow being picked up. Jax is displaying behavior appropriate for experienced cat parents.
