Manhattan Center
Hello, my name is Jasper. My animal id is #10220. I am a desexed female orange tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 19-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – aggressive towards people.
Jasper is at risk due the behavior as he is not thriving in the care center. He had to be moved out of adoptions due to his distance increasing behaviors and we recommend he go to an adult only home that will give him to acclimate to his surroundings on his own time. There are no medical concerns for Jasper at this time.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Jasper interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. Although she is displaying behaviors appropriate for beginner cat parents, because her previous owner reports she had recently started showing distance-increasing behavior towards the other animals in the home, we recommend she go home with cat parents with an average amount of experience. **UPDATE 11/08/17** Jasper continues to appreciate petting and attention, however she displays distance-increasing behavior with extended handling and does not appear to tolerate being picked up. Please keep in mind there are many reasons why a cat may be uncomfortable with this type of handling and that this may not necessarily translate into a home environment. We recommend any future home with children be counseled in respecting the cat’s space and for the family to use care when picking her up, especially while she is still adjusting to her new home. Due to her current behavior, we recommend she go to a home with experienced cat parents.
