[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Upper Respiratory Illness] Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.
Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 2. Blue
KNOWN HISTORY:: Jasmine was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/06/18 Tries to flee
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/06/18 Crouched in back of kennel, body tense and tail curled around feet. She tolerates petting along her head and body while remaining very still and tilting her ears. Nervous – needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:: Jasmine was sitting in the litter box with her head lowered and her tail wrapped around her body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Jasmine seems unsure of her surroundings and doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Jasmine remains motionless.
Reaction to touch:: Jasmine slow blinks and curls up tight, shrinking her body when the assessor extends his hand out. She closes her eyes and tolerates petting along her body while remaining completely still.
Reaction to being picked up:: Jasmine was a bit tense when picked up and quickly leaps back into the kennel.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Jasmine has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Please note that Jasmine is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Jasmine may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
