03/30/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Janus was brought into the care center as a stray with unknown history. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – allows handing ENRICHMENT NOTES: 3/28/17 Crouched in litter box, eyes dilated, seemed wary. Lay in place when door opened. Allowed pets, some lip licking. 3/29/17 Small improvement. In litter box, eyes dilated, whiskers straight out. Came out to main compartment when offered toy. Leaned into pets, and then went back into cubby, body held low, some lip licking. Leaned more enthusiastically into pets from inside cubby, and then crept slowly out again for water. Startled by loud voices in hallway, fled back to cubby. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: No change Reaction to assessor: Janus looks neutral, crouched position on his cage bedding when approached by the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Janus body tenses up and becomes alert with eyes wide open then began to lip lick in place. Reaction to touch: Janus accepts the stroke on the head and body, but shows no interest while he eye wanders. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Shy and Timid BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Janus tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home who understands this cat may need time to warm up to his new home and family at his own pace. RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced, adult home only
