04/20/17 11:17 Janis scratched the surrender when placed inside the carrier so Janis was not picked up to be taken out of the carrier. Janis allowed petting inside the carrier. While pet, she nuzzled hand and lifted her hind end. She would walk to the end of the carrier but would retreat back inside. She was not taken out to prevent further stress.

KNOWN HISTORY: Janis was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. He allowed petting while inside his carrier during intake and would nuzzle against the counselor’s hand, lifting her rear end when pet on his lower back. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed Behavior – calm, allows all handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: 04/21/17 Super sweet, a purring machine! Chirps then comes forward to greet. Loves attention, leans in for rubs and petting along his body. Rolls over on side playfully. Climbs onto my lap when called, nuzzles up for attention. Doesn’t mind being held. 04/25/17 Comes forward when called, meowing. He head-butts my hand and leans into petting along his head and body, rolling over onto the floor and kneading the air. Rolls over a few times during petting session, exposing his belly as he purrs. Allows all touch and petting for duration of interaction. 04/27/17 Comes forward when called, making eye contact with soft eyes and head-butting the kennel door. He allows all petting along his head and body, leaning into my hand and arms with his tail raised. He climbs onto my lap and kneads my legs. Allows all petting and handling – friendly boy. 04/29/17 Behavior remains consistent. Very social and friendly. Just wants to climb on my lap and relax. A true lap cat! Rolls around playfully solicits attention. VALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Janis approaches the front and is calm, relaxed, and friendly. Reaction when softly spoken to: Janis starts soliciting attention and rubs against the cage door while purring. Reaction to cage door opening: Janis remains soft and relaxed. Reaction to touch: Janis head-butts, leans in for rubs, and rolls over. Reaction to being picked up: Janis remains soft and continues to purr when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Lively VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Social, People Oriented, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Beginner Janis interacts with the Assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat can go to a beginner home.
