*** SAFE 10/18/17 *** JAKE is an affectionate kitty that is FIV positive. Please consider this sweet kitty today… “Hi! I’m Jake. I had to go to a meeting because all my feline friends said I have a problem. I have this obsession with hugging humans. I don’t know what it is! I just can’t get enough! I start my routine by walking on their laps – and the humans just go crazy. They squeal, and pet me all over, give me a bunch of baby talk, the whole shebang! What get’s them getting even mushier, is when I stretch out my paws and hug them by their shoulders, then I just give a little nudge on their chin with the top of my head. They go nuts! They coo and squeeze me a little bit, but I don’t mind at all. Sometimes I flop over while they hold me and roll over on my back, so they hold me like a baby. I swear it’s like I’m royalty! What cat wouldn’t want to do that? If you’d like to pamper me up, I’d let ya do it too! Why dontcha come by and see how lovable I can be?”

Details on my behavior are…
KNOWN HISTORY: Jake was brought into our care center as a stray so we have no previous history available. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Very friendly, wants to be held and pet during exam. Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Jake is at the front of his kennel as the assessor approaches, leaning against and head-butting the kennel door. He reaches out towards the assessor with soft paws and purrs while kneading the air. Reaction when softly spoken to: Jake makes eye contact and vocalizes when spoken to, ears forward. Reaction to cage door opening: Jake reaches out and grabs the assessor’s hand with soft paws as the cage door opens. Reaction to touch: Jake allows petting along his head and body while standing up on his hind legs to head-butt the assessor’s hand. He leans in for petting and purrs with his tail raised and waving at the tip. He grabs the assessor’s hand softly with his teeth (minimal pressure applied) as interaction continues, then licks the same spot. Reaction to being picked up: Jake allows assessor to pick him up, body tensing as he continues to purr and look around the room. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Energetic VOCAL: Talkative CHARACTER TYPE: Bold Social Affectionate Playful Lap Cat People oriented POTENTIAL CHALLENGES: Overstimulation Potential challenges comments: Overstimulation: Jake is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before [name] becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable RECOMMENDATIONS: None BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Experience Jake is a cat that is very affectionate and has a lot of attention. He gets excited during interactions and may nip or play roughly. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
10/08/17 Behavior: Experience.
