08/26/16 13:26 Indy is a ten year old black spayed domestic shorthair. She was surrendered by her owner due to owner moving into a facility that does not accept pets. She was adopted from ACC and has been with her owner for over eight years. Indy is described as fearful around strangers and will hiss and keep her distance. She has lived with three adults and children age five and a teenager. She is described as fearful aroudn the children and will stay hidden, she will engage in somewhat rough play with everyone. She has not been around other cats or dogs. Indy often scratches when she plays or when she does not wish to be bothered. She will hiss and bite when she does not wish to be bothered. Indy will urinate outside the litterbox when she is upset. Indy was never bathed. had her nails trimmed or brushed by owner. She will hiss and bite if picked up or placed in a carrier. Owner stated she has not bitten within the last ten days. Indy is described as shy, fearful and mellow. She has been kept only indoors and sleeps in the closet. She uses a hooded litterbox and clumping litter. She had a fabric horizontal scratching post in the home. Indy eats Iams dry food and is free fed. Upon intake Indy was tense and growled and lunged when being transferred into another carrier. Counselor was able to scan (positive), not able to collar due to temperment at intake.

As per previous owner, Indy is fearful around strangers and will hiss to keep their distance. She has lived with 3 adults and a 5 year old and a teenager. Her owner says she’s fearful around the children and will stay hidden, she will engage in somewhat rough play with everyone. Indy often scratches when she plays and when she doesn’t want to be bothered. She urinates outside the litter box when she’s upset and will hiss and bite when she does not wish to be bothered. Indy will hiss and bite if picked up or placed in a carrier. Her owner describes her as shy, fearful, mellow and she normal uses a fabric horizontal scratching post at home. Reaction to assessor: Indy was hiding in her feral den at the back of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Indy remains inside and wouldn’t come out when spoken to softly. Reaction to cage door opening: Indy remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Indy hisses as you approach with flat ears and quickly shifts away. She swats when you approach her and currently doesn’t allow any handling. Behavior Determination: New Hope Only Cescent is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
