He has no known health issues or injuries and has not seen a vet recently. He was an owner surrender due to the owner having too many animals in the home. One of his housemates is New Yorker. Hello, my name is Houston. My animal id is #16429. I am a male brown tabby cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 6 months old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 18-Dec-2017, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit – too many animals already.
Houston is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other cats. this cat can go to a beginner home.

The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. Scanned negative QARH – tense, dislikes being lifted and placed on side. Towel used for exam; unable to obtain sample for CT. M~18 months Eyes clear discharge, crust at inner nares Nose clear to yellow-white discharge; sneezing. Ears clear Teeth stained, mild gingivitis Coat clean, nails long. NOSF Vet 1206 confirmed URI symptoms but did not have time for full exam. Authorized 1st dose of 0.5cc Doxy PO and move to Iso.

How is this cat around strangers?: Houston is friendly and approachable with strangers. He might be shy for a minute or two but is the one most likely to be outgoing out of all the cats in the home.
How is this cat around children?: Houston has lived with young children in the home and is relaxed and playful with them.
How is this cat around other cats?: Houston lived with a number of other cats and was reportedly affectionate and respectful with them.
How is this cat around dogs?: Houston has not spent time around dogs.
Behavior Notes: Houston owner has not bathed or trimmed his nails, but she is able to brush him with the glove brush. He allows his owner to pick him up and hold him and putting him in a carrier without struggle.

For a New Family to Know: Houston is described as being friendly, affectionate and playful. He is more on the independent side and stays in his spot or does his own activities during the day. He likes to play with all kinds of toys and has been an indoor cat. He sleeps anywhere in the home and eats both wet and dry food. She is litter box trained using an un covered box with clumping fresh step litter. He uses a scratching post made from carpet and cardboard

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 12/19/17 Lying in back of kennel, body relaxed. Makes eye contact when spoken to and stretches as the cage door opens. Comes forward to allow petting along head and body while leaning in and raising tail. Doing well after first day!
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Houston was relaxed and curious, looking out at his surroundings near the front of the kennel.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Houston sniffs around then gently rubs his body up against the kennel door.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Houston pauses, then quickly retreats to the back of the kennel.
Reaction to touch:: Houston lowers his body when approached, but allows gentle petting along his body. His body starts to perk up, he leans in for rubs then comes forward and solicits attention.
