***GONE 03/05/16 *** LIFE AND THE STREET HAVE NOT BEEN KIND TO HESTIA….She is a 10 year old lady who is FELV+ but also has other issues…..She is anemic and underweight and has dental disease. She is also showing some possible jaundice…..a veritable laundry list of street life and illness. But through this all HESTIA keeps fighting….she is eating and telling the world that she is not through with it. HESTIA has a NEW HOPE rating so will need a FOSTER or ADOPTER to go through a NEW HOPE rescue. 03/01/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/01/16 11:15 Hestia A1066368 is a female calico who was found near the finder’s car in the Bronx earlier this morning. The finder is a regular who brings in cats that appear to be sick and or injured. Hestia appears ill. She has some eye discharge and a particular odor emitting from her. The finder stated they lured her into a carrier with some seafood flavored wet cat food and brought her into us at the BXAC. During intake Hestia had a low body posture and appeared to be nervous. She allowed to be scanned (-) but once I attempted to carry her for her picture and to be collared she hissed, became tense and was dodging my hands as if she didn’t want to be handled which is understandable in her condition. Hestia’s picture had to be taken in the kennel where she appeared more at ease.

03/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Hestia came into the care center as a stray so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home or to her previous situation. She has behaved fearfully and has avoided human interaction since arriving, although she has displayed no aggression or attempts to cause injury to her caretakers. Feedback from enrichment interactions: 3/2/16: Hestia in quiet, laying in her litterbox. Avoided petting but did not flee, allowed touch but she was frozen in place. Appears uncomfortable with human touch. 3/3/16: Hestia is at the front of the cage when approached today, vocalizing (meowing). She fled to litter box at back and hid face when the door opened. Placement determination: New Hope Only While Hestia has not aggressed, she seems highly uncomfortable with interaction. We cannot be sure whether she has ever lived in a home environment. Due to this behavior we recommend placement with a New Hope partner at this time.
