***SAFE 11/11/17*** SOCIAL, SWEET AND AFFECTIONATE HERMIONE WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR WINTER SNUGGLE PAL!! WATCH HER THREE VIDEOS!! A volunteer writes: Hermoine is that fun best friend with the mischievious streak you had in high school who liked to take the lead but never left her girls behind. When I met her in the cat adoption room, she extended her paw and then bowed her gorgeous calico head. I gave her an ear scratching and lots of pettings, and she was in total heaven. I wasn’t the only person impressed with her affectionate and soft nature; Care Center behavior staffers also noted that Hermoine loved giving head butts, had a soft and relaxed nature, and was chatty, social, and sweet. She also knows her limits; she makes it clear when she’s done with petting time and wants to play, munch on kibble, or just chill out and enjoy independent time. Come meet spirited, big personality Hermoine today! Another volunteer writes: You can’t miss her, and you’ll find her in the hall in a top kennel nearest to the adoptions desk. For most cats, this is a tough location, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of adoption activity. But Hermione is right at home, ready to receive attention from anyone and everyone. She is affectionate, happy and confident, and she rewards your petting by rolling over on her back just like a friendly dog. She is the kind of cat you want if you have a busy home and you are concerned that a cat may feel overwhelmed. Then Hermione is your girl. She is absolutely stunning, with what’s called a pastel tortie coat. With her beauty and outgoing personality, you may even want to give her a seat at the dinner table, especially when guests come over. HERMIONE now has the shelter cold and has been given the boot!! Colds are easily treated with antibiotics. PLEASE GIVE THIS SUPER SWEET GIRL A NEW PLACE TO CALL HOME – RESERVE BY NOON!
MANHATTAN CENTER
Hello, my name is Hermione. My animal id is #10742. I am a desexed female torbie cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 25-Oct-2017.
hermoine is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Hermoine will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. hermoine should go to an Adult Only home as she can become overstimulated with handling and begin too hiss and growl.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…

Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 5. Red
Hermione appeared relaxed in her carrier but hissed when counselor brought her out in the cat area. She moved around a lot but allowed to be collard, photographed and placed in kennel.
Date of Intake: 10/25/2017
Spay/Neuter status: Unknown
Basic Information:: Hermione is a dilute torbie and white colored female cat that was surrendered stray. He was found roaming the streets and finder surrendered her as soon as they met. Finder could not bring her home or keep her due to allergies. Hermione has no signs of illness or injury.
How is this cat around strangers?: She is friendly and outgoing. She would walk up to you and rub her body on your leg.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Hermione was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/17 In den on approach, came out when spoken to. Eyes dilated, tense posture, started hissing and grumbling. Leaned into pets, remained wary of surroundings. Ate offered treats, followed me over to next kennel for more, still occasionally hissing and grumbling. Sprayed feliway.
Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Hermione engages when approached by the assessor.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Hermione remains soft in place.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Hermione seeks affection, leans forward with tail up and remains at the front of the cage, soft and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:: Hermione head-butts the assessor’s hand and accepts the touch with eyes soft and loose body. When accepting the pets she began to growl while looking around her surroundings and randomly hisses.
Reaction to being picked up:: She briefly allows the pickup and remains calm.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Sweet,Affectionate
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Initially Hermione solicits petting and attention, but after a few soft passes over the body she begins to growls and randomly hiss at the assessor. This may be a sign of petting-induced aggression, where repeated physical contact results in discomfort for the cat, or it may be a sign of overstimulation. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Hermione becomes reactive. Treats should be used to reward appropriate responses to physical attention.
