06/28/2017 AT RISK MEMO
Henderson is at risk due to behavior. Henderson solicits attention when approached and appears curious of her surroundings, but retreats to her other kennel space when someone approaches to interact with her. She goes through the portal into the opposite kennel as the cage door opens, but would come forward when the cage door is closed. She allows gentle petting through the cage door, but will retreat when the cage door is open. She takes some time to warm up, but appears hesitant of interaction without a barrier in between.

06/28/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Henderson was brought in as a stray, so there is no information on her behavior in her previous home. She was peeking out and appeared curious of her surroundings during intake. She accepted petting and allowed all handling, but didn’t seem to appreciate attention. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Observed behavior – Tries to flee EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is slightly re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Henderson walks to the front and solicits attention. Reaction when softly spoken to: Henderson looks at the assessor. Reaction to cage door opening: Henderson shifts to her other kennel space. Reaction to touch: Henderson shifts away when petting is attempted, but she allows the assessor to pet her through the cage door when the door is closed. When approached again after being pet, she shifts away and doesn’t appear to be comfortable with interaction without a barrier in between. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Curious RECOMMENDATIONS: – Experienced cat parents – Henderson tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home and family. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
