Hello, my name is Hema. My animal id is #14275. I am a desexed male white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 21-Nov-2017, with the surrender reason stated as person health – allergies.

Hema is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. Hema will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. There are no known behavior concerns for Hema at this time, average determination.

Appeared lethargic yesterday and was started on SQF, cerenia S/O -QAR, docile but much more interactive than yesterday; sweet and very affectionate after he warms up -good appetite -soft sneezing, mild nasal congestion -OU: open and clear -eupnic -soft abdomen A URI Lethargy/inappetance-improved, suspect it may be related to URI P move to isolation doxycycline 0.8 ml PO SID x 10 days extend cerenia for one additional day nebulize SID x 3 days

Hema was loose bodied during intake she did try to flee a few times but allowed us to collar and take her picture. She let us pick her up and.
Basic Information:: Hema is a black and white domestic short hair that is estimated to be 9 months old. Her previous owner bred her at home and she stayed with her until family members began to have allergic reactions and where unable to keep her.
Previously lived with:: 1 Adult, 2 Toddlers, 2 Dogs (Large and Small Breed) and 4 Cats
How is this cat around strangers?: Hema is friendly around strangers she approaches and sniffs then goes back to what she was doing and doesn’t seek attention
How is this cat around children?: Hema was around 2 toddlers for a short time in her previous home. She did not interact much with with them and was calm when around them.
How is this cat around other cats?: Hema lived with 4 other cats she was comfortable with all but one that she was chased away from and hissed at. The previous owner did not know why they did not get along.
How is this cat around dogs?: Hema lived with 2 dogs she got along with both of them and she would lay around with them and
Behavior Notes: Hema enjoys baths, and having her coat brushed. She is not bothered by being picked up or put into a carrier of having her nails trimmed.
Bite history:: Hema has no history of having bitten another person or animal.

Has this cat ever had any medical issues?: No
For a New Family to Know: Hema is a mellow cat that enjoys playing with balls of string and other cats. She likes to be in the same room as you and sleep on your bed at night. She is an indoor cat and eats both wet and dry food. She is very litter box trained and is used to using a uncovered litter box. She does not use scratching posts and doesn’t usually scratch on furniture if her nails are trimmed.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Observed Behavior -calm, allows exam
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: Asleep in cubby, woke when door opened. Lay in place, soft eyes and body, still very sleepy. Leaned hard into pets, ate offered treats.

Reaction to assessor:: Hema was resting upon approach.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Hema does not respond and continues to sleep.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Hema remains motionless, still asleep.
Reaction to touch:: Hema opens his eyes and remains in place while being pet. She allows petting all over, but the end of his tail starts to flick.
Reaction to being picked up:: Hema remains soft and allows pick up.
