08/01/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/01/17 11:34 Harpua came to the care center as a stray cat found in an apartment. It appeared that he came through a window. He was found in the apartment lying down. When he was approached, he did not move. He was picked up and placed in a crate. The surrender described Harpua as “tranquil” and states that he would not walk and meowed when his hind legs were touched. During the admissions process, Harpua was lying in the middle of a blanket and calmly looked around at his surroundings. When the counselor approached the carrier, Harpua did not move. The counselor scanned Harpua and was able to pick him up and place him on the counter for a photo. When on the counter, Harpua moved his legs under his body but his left hind leg splayed outwards a little. Harpua sat still for his photo and collaring. He was easier picked up and placed back in his carrier. When in the carrier, he readjusted his position on the blanket and lay back down.

08/04/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Harpua was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Calm, allows full exam, manipulation of limbs ENRICHMENT NOTES: 08/02/17 Lying in back of kennel with a flat body, tail wrapped around feet. He moves his head forward to smell my hand and leans into petting along his head. He turns his head around to watch my hand as it passes along his back and hisses. Needs more time to adjust. Seems to be very uncomfortable with being touched on lower back at this time. 08/03/17 Lying in back of kennel, tail wrapped around body. He tolerates petting along his head and body while shifting his weight and sitting upright. Licks lips. Ears tilt with further petting and he backs away, begins to thump his tail back and forth on the kennel floor. Not interested in treats today. Not comfortable with interaction at the moment – becomes further agitated the more he is touched. Needs time to adjust. 08/04/17 Resting at the back of the cage with his hind leg extended out. He lifts his head up and looks over at the assessor with soft eyes. Remains calm when the door opens. He sniffs my hand and accepts gentle pets on his head. Leans in for cheek rubs but will occasionally lip lick. His tail starts to flicker and he leans away and hisses when attempting to pet him on his neck/back. Seems uncomfortable, possibly due to fracture. I kept the interaction short, and sprayed feliway. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Timid Please note that this cat is being treated for a medical condition at the time of evaluation. It is difficult to determine at this time how the medical condition may be affecting the behavior. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Harpua tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
