Care Center Location: Brooklyn
ZIP Code From: 11208
Intake Type: Stray
Medical Behavior: Yellow
Age: 10 years
Sex: Female
Weight: 7 lbs
BEHAVIOR:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Haley was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
06/06/18
Initially tail up, sniffed hand but after oral exam became irate, swatting
ENRICHMENT NOTES:
06/06/18
Standing in front of kennel, ears fowrad and body relaxed. Vocalizes when spoken to. She remains calm as the cage door opens and allows petting along her head and body while leaning in and raising her tail. Becomes uncomfortable as I’m closing the kennel door and swipes at my hand with ears flat. Social – may be showing some signs of overstimulation.
06/07/18
Comes forward slowly, sniffs hand, then brushes up for attention. Tail sways slowly, leans in for rubs on cheeks. Appreciates attention. Very food motivated- did a little clicker training and rewarded when she solicit attention. Did very well! Tensed up, and started swiping at my hand when I closed the cage door.
Cage Condition:
Cage is recently cleaned
Reaction to assessor:
Haley meows softly, then comes forward and reaches out with soft paws.
Reaction when softly spoken to:
Haley gently rubs up against the cage door.
Reaction to cage door opening:
Haley is calm and relaxed.
Reaction to touch:
Haley sniffs the assessor, then brushes up against his hand. Her tail quivers, she gives head butts and allows petting all over. After a few soft pets her pupils dilate, and she quickly whips around and swipes at the assessor’s hand.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:
Lively
VOCAL:
Somewhat chatty
CHARACTER TYPE:
Calm
Affectionate
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Overstimulation
Potential challenges comments:
Haley is social and affectionate but appears to be easily overstimulated. As a result of this observed behavior we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Haley becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:
Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar
TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:
None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:
Haley solicits attention and tolerates petting but may be assertively demanding of attention or may play roughly.
Due to Haley showing signs of over stimulation, we feel that this cat will do best in an adult only home.
