12/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gurly’s previous owner reports she hides from strangers, but after a few days she will lean in for petting and allow them to pick her up. She has lived with children and was gentle and playful with them. She has never been around other cats or dogs, but enjoys having her coat brushed and likes being picked up. She was described as a friendly, affectionate, and playful cat that loves to play with balls and wands. The owner says she loves to sleep and watch the children play. Reaction to assessor: Gurly was curled up by the back, calm and relaxed. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gurly’s ears shift back and forth sideways and forward. She begins to breathe rapidly, but her eyes soften a little and she blinks. Reaction to cage door opening: Gurly becomes alert, focusing on the opening. Reaction to touch: Gurly sniffs the assessor’s hand and appeared unsure, but allows gentle petting with a slow approach. She begins to rub her cheeks against it and rolls over slightly, but becomes tense when touched on her lower back. She recovers and continues to allow gentle petting on her head, slowly warming up, but hisses when touched on her lower back and hisses whenever there is a lot of commotion in the room. She appears to appreciate attention, but is wary of her surroundings. Behavior Determination: Experienced Gurly tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Because of her stress levels in the care center, we recommend any future home with children conduct a thorough interaction before adopting.
