07/11/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Gumball was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Pulls back when going into cage, watches me cautiously and crouches when approaching cat with hand, and will try to run out. ENRICHMENT NOTES: 07/09/17 Sitting crouched on top of overturned litter box. She tolerates petting along her head and body with ears forward, turning her head towards my hand. Seems to appreciate petting – she steps off her litter box and comes forward to the front after I pull my arm away. Hard to tell for sure due to her injury. 07/10/17 Sitting crouched in back of kennel. She tolerates petting along her head and body while turning her head and watching my hand, then scrambling away from me as my hand passes along her body. May be uncomfortable due to injury. Limited interaction due to injury. 07/11/17 Crouched near the front of the cage, staring at the wall. Doesn’t react or seem to notice when I approach the cage. No response when I call out to him or talk softly. He shifts away and focuses his attention to me when the door opens. Wary, low body posture. He slinks down and tolerates brief petting on his head before shifting away and trying to escape. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Laid back VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Skittish Please note that this cat has a severe medical condition so we may not be seeing any true behavior and behavior may change when the cat’s medical condition improves. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced, adult home only – Gumball tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
