*** SAFE 03/18/16 *** GUESS was DUMPED because her owner for 8 years, no longer has time to care for her. And now, she is stuck at a place who will no sooner blink than kill her. She is RESCUE ONLY and it’s no shock. The owners had said GUESS was scared and retreats in the home and does not engage in play. So one can only image her fear level in a place that’s unfamiliar to her! Please, contact a New Hope Rescue now, and give this girl a chance to make your life full! GUESS she won’t have a life unless you can save her!

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 03/13/2016 from NY 11221, owner surrender reason stated was LLORDPRIVA.

03/13/16 16:42 Basic Information; Guess is an eight year old gray and white female doemstic shorthair. She was surrendered by her owner due to owner no longer having the time to care for her. She is described as mellow, independent and laidback. She was found on the street as a kitten and was witrh her owner for eight years. Socialization: Guess has lived with two adults and one other cats. According to owner Guess is fearful and will retreat while in the home. She does not engage in play with adults. She has had very limited interactions with children and according to the owner is respectful but will keep her distance. With the other cat in the home Guess was aggressive and owner stated she would hiss and swat at the other cat and would often fight. She has not been around dogs and has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: Owner did not bathe, trim her nails or brush Guess. Owner stated when she is held she will struggle and flee. She will struggle when placed in a carrier but can be lured in with food. Owner stated she is litterbox trained and does not have accidents outside her box. For a new family to know: Guess’s activity level is described as low in the home; she likes to be in the same room as her owner. She has been kept only indoors and uses a hooded litterbox and clumping litter. Owner stated she would claw on speakers and furniture in the home, she did not have a scratching post. She eats wet and dry food and had an automatic feeder in the home. Upon intake Guess was affectionate and nuzzled counselors hand and purred. She had a relaxed body and allowed all handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph.

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
As per previous owner, Guess has lived with two adults and one other cats. Guess is fearful and will retreat while in the home. She does not engage in play with adults. She has had very limited interactions with children and according to the previous owner is respectful but will keep her distance. With the other cat in the home Guess would hiss and swat at the other cat. They would often fight. She has not been around dogs. Reaction to assessor: Guess was resting at the back of the cage When spoken quietly: Guess continued to rest at the back of the cage Reaction to door cage opening: Guess appears calm Reaction to touch: Guess hisses and strikes. She does not allows petting at all Try picking cat up: did not attempt to pick up due fractious behavior Behavior Determination: NewHope Guess seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment she was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room. Guess may require further investigation before placement in a home. She attempt to strike when attempted to pet her . Guess currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
