KNOWN HISTORY:
Greenie was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
tries to flee, hissing
EVALUATION:
Cage Condition: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor: Greenie is relaxing in her den with her mother and littermate.
Reaction when softly spoken to: Greenie makes eye contact and remains motionless in her den.
Reaction to cage door opening: Greenie sits up and wraps her tail around her body. She appears alert.
Reaction to touch: Greenie retreats further into her den and tries to hide behind her littermate. When being pet, Greenie’s ears flatten down and to the side. She allows all petting but appears to be nervous.
Reaction to being picked up: Greenie tries to flee when being picked up but when being held will stay in the assessors arms. After a few minutes of being pet and held she leaps back into her kennel and goes to hide in the den with her littermate.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate, Lively
VOCAL: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: Timid, Shy, Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:
Kitten socialization- Greenie is a young cat that may not have had many interactions with humans from an early age. She may be apprehensive of people, but the behavior team believes she has potential to warm up to people. Kittens less than 8 weeks of age can be socialized by almost anyone; however, kittens between 2-4 months may require more time and skill in order for them to be comfortable around people. Please speak to an adoption counselor to learn more about socialization techniques.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Experienced, adult home only- Greenie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated be intimidated by small children. she may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his/her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
