***SAFE 10/22/17*** GRAPE IS A SWEET AVERAGE RATED KITTY WHO IS FIV POSITIVE AND NEEDS YOU TO SAVE HIS LIFE TONIGHT!! GRAPE was a community cat who was found near a school and brought into the shelter by someone who said he looked sick. Grape is FIV positive and currently has a URI. Grape is shy but has been easy to handle, loves attention and will roll over and give head-butts. GRAPE NEEDS OUT TONIGHT AND YOU CAN HELP HIM BY RESERVING HIM BY NOON!!

Hello, my name is Grape. My animal id is #10011. I am a male black cat at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 17-Oct-2017.
Grape 10011 is at risk for his medical condition, including an upper respiratory infection (URI), FIV, and dental disease. Please see the veterinary notes for further details and clarification. Behaviorally, Grape has been timid but curious, allowing petting and soliciting attention with a slow approach. He is suitable for an adopter with an average amount of cat experience.

Ate well when offered food Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = WNL R = WNL BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, mild thick bloody nasal discharge Oral Exam: Severe dental disease, halitosis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, unkempt, dirty hair coat CNS: mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: FIV+, dental disease, epistaxis – R/O trauma vs URI vs other Plan: Monitor in medical, recheck tomorrow Prognosis: Poor SURGERY: Permanent waiver due to medical conditions
Recheck condition – presented with small amount of crusted and active bloody nasal discharge S/O: QAR. ~5% dehydration. Eating well. Allows all handling EENT: Dental disease, pink mm, eyes clear, crusted bloody nasal discharge with slight active MPND HL: Sneezing, sounds congested, clear lung sounds A: FIV+, R/O URI, mild dehydration P: Rec doxycycline 0.9ml PO q24 x 10 days, LRS 100ml SQ q24 x 3 days. Nebulize q24 x 3 days. Fair prognosis

KNOWN HISTORY:: Grape was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Allowed all handling.
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/18/17 Sitting in front of the kennel with a tense body. He moves his head forward to smell my hand, then tolerates petting along his head and body while leaning back slightly and tilting his ears. Unsure. Needs more time to adjust. 10/19/17 Sitting crouched in front of kennel, front feet folded and head lowered. He tolerates petting along his head and body while tilting ears slightly. Remains in front of the kennel and tolerates all petting with minimal response. May not be feeling well due to medical condition. Seems unsure/lethargic.

Reaction to assessor:: Grape was lying down near the back of the kennel with his tail wrapped around his body.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Grape is curious and slowly inches forward to investigate.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Grape remains calm.
Reaction to touch:: Grape sniffs the assessor’s hand then gently nudges him and accepts gentle petting along his body. He rolls over on his side, gives head butts and appreciates attention.
Reaction to being picked up:: Grape was tense when picked up, lip licked then got antsy and leaped back into the kennel.
