***SAFE 06/16/16*** ALL HE WANTS IS A WINDOW TO LOOK OUT OF AND SOME MEOW MIX IN HIS TUMMY! Meet GOLDIE, a stunning 4-year-old old boy who was GIFTED to his former owner all those years ago, when he was a kitten. That person may never have wanted a cat in the first place! They got GOLDIE neutered but this beautiful boy does not come across as having lived with people who took the time to socialize him well, judging from his shelter notes, and no one is explaining how he got that “healed double kin” in his tail. Goldie has probably spent 4 years being an afterthought for someone, and that someone finally took him to the ACC because of “health issues” on June 11th. Goldie is scared to death at the ACC so, not surprisingly, he earned a NEW HOPE rating and an express ticket to the At-Risk List. Isn’t it curious how the ACC is flummoxed by his behavior on his evaluation, but when it comes time to kill him tomorrow, they will devote as many resources of manpower and time as they need, to make sure he DIES? That’s utterly UNFAIR to GOLDIE, but that’s also the RAW TRUTH of what will happen to him unless a NEW HOPE RESCUE pulls him to safety, tonight!

As per previous owner, Goldie is described as fearful around strangers. He will retreat when strangers visit the home. Goldie will not engage in play with adults. He has spent time with children. He is described as fearful around children and will not engage in play. He has not been around dogs or cats. Goldie is independent and has a medium activity level. He likes to window watch and can always be found in his favorite spot the windowsill. He likes to play with balls and has been kept mostly indoors. Reaction to assessor: Goldie was hiding when I approach cage When spoken quietly: Goldie continues to hide in the cat den Reaction to door cage opening: Goldie hisses at the assessor from within the cat den Reaction to touch: Goldie hisses, strikes and does not allows petting at all Try picking cat up: Did not attempt Behavior Determination: NewHope Goldie was brought to the care center as a stray so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies previous to what we are seeing during the evaluation. Goldie seems to not be thriving in this environment and at the time of the assessment he was displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful and currently does not tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
