Details on my behavior are…
Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow
KNOWN HISTORY:: Genie was brought in without information on his behavior history or tendencies in a home environment.
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: Fled from table immediately, allowed to be covered with towel, no hissing or swatting
ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 01/03/18 Lying in back of kennel, body flat and pupils dilated. Looks around the room. Tolerates petting along head and body while remaining vert still, ears flattened. Needs more time to adjust.
Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged
Reaction to assessor:: Genie was crouched in the back of the kennel and makes eye contact with the assessor as he approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Genie lowers his head and starts to breathe rapidly when the assessor talks to him softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Genie tenses up and his eyes dart around the kennel.
Reaction to touch:: Genie continues lip licking, then looks around the kennel frantically for an exit. He flinches when touched and starts to shift away when the assessor pets him along his back. He’s tense, appears very uncomfortable and tolerates very brief interactions.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Genie has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
RECOMMENDATIONS:: None
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Genie tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
