Crouched in litterbox, body tense. Hisses and watches the bear-claw as it reaches forward, then tolerates petting while lowering to the floor and flattening ears. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.

Crouched in center of kennel, body low and tense. Avoids eye contact and looks around the room when spoken to. Hisses when spoken to and flattens ears. Tolerates petting along head and body with the bear-claw while lowering himself to the floor and turning his head, ears remaining flat. Nervous. Sniffs treats but doesn’t eat them during or after interaction. Nervous, needs more time to adjust.

Lying down underneath his kuranda bed, with his tail wrapped around his body. He lifts his head up to make eye contact, but doesn’t come forward when coaxed. Sniffs my hand, and accepts gentle petting along his body. He leans in when rubbed on his cheeks, raises his rear when pet along his back, and slowly starts to warm up. After a few minutes of attention he rises up, and approaches the front of the kennel while giving head butts. Doing better!

Crouched in front of kennel, body low and tense. Makes eye contact when spoken to. Tolerates petting along head and body while lowering himself and tilting his ears. He relaxes after a few moments of slow, gentle petting and begins to lean in for cheek and chin rubs. A bit more tense today, but showing improvement over all. He smells the treats I place down next to him but doesn’t eat them. Has potential to continue to warm up.

Gato is shy and mellow around most people but is friendly towards his owner. He has been an indoor cat and likes to follow his owner around when he is home. Gato sleeps in the owners bed, eats both wet and dry food, and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Gato scratches on fabric furniture in the home but had not been given a scratching post.
