Basic Information:
Gato is an all white, DSH male, who was neutered prior to coming into the shelter. He has been in his home since he was a few months old and was surrendered due to the family moving and their new housing does not allow pets. He has no known health issues or injuries, and has not seen a vet recently.

How is this cat around strangers?
Gato is indifferent when guests enter the home. He will not approach them but also does not run and hide.
How is this cat around children?
Gato has lived with three children in his previous home and was affectionate and playful with them. The youngest daughter had a special bond with Gato and she would be able to cuddle him and carry him around the house.
How is this cat around other cats?
Gato had not spent time around other cats.
How is this cat around dogs?
Gato had lived with a small dog in her previous home and was playful and respectful around him.
Behavior Notes
Gato’s owner had been able to bathe him without much struggle and he allowed them to brush him except for his rear end. He does not like that being touched. They have never tried to trim his nails. Gato will allow his owners to pick him up for short periods of time, but as stated previously, he allowed the daughter to carry him around.

Gato is described as being mellow, independent and aloof. Half the time he will follow certain family members around and the other half he will stay in his favorite spot. He likes to play with string and wand toys, catnip toys and laser pointers. He has been an indoor cat, sleeps in the daughters bed, and eats both wet and dry food. He is litter box trained to use both a hooded and uncovered box, with crystal litter. He had not been given a scratching post in his previous home but liked to scratch on fabric and carpet.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
Hissing and growling in cage. Had to be netted and sedated. Will flee and try to scratch.

Gato was relaxed and lying down across the back of the kennel.

Gato makes eye contact with the assessor but doesn’t get up or come forward when coaxed.

Reaction to touch:
Gato seems unsure but slowly leans forward and sniffs the assessor’s hand. He leans in for rubs on his cheek and accepts gentle petting along his body. The end of his tail thrashes around and he follows the assessor’s hand when touched on his lower back. He seems to prefer being pet on his head and will whip around and hiss when touched along his back for an extended period of time.
