Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Garnet was brought in as a stray, so we cannot speak to his behavior in his previous home. Reaction to assessor: Garnet was curled up tight and was pressed up against the back wall of the kennel. Reaction when softly spoken to: Garnet focuses on the assessor then lowers his head and lip licks. Reaction to cage door opening: Garnet remains motionless. Reaction to touch: Garnet is hesitant of contact and lip licks and leans away when the assessor extends his hand out. He flinches and closes his when touched, tolerates petting with a slow approach and appears uncomfortable during the interaction. Please note that Garnet is being treated for an upper respiratory infection at the time of the behavior assessment. This condition may affect some of the behaviors shown during evaluation. Behavior Determination: Experience No Child Garnet tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in a calm, quiet home with experienced cat parents and without children.
