06/12/17 20:09 Basic information: Garfield is a domestic short hair cat who was surrendered with house mate Luna due to their previous owners’ landlord not allowing pets in the building. Socialization: Around strangers Garfield is friendly and plays gently with adults. Garfield has never been around dogs or children so it is unknown how he will react to being around them. Garfield has lived with only one cat, Luna, and is relaxed and affectionate towards her. Behavior: Garfield has never bitten/scratched another person or animal and has not shown any concerning behavior while at his previous home. Garfield has never neem in a car so it is unknown how he will react to being in one. Luna’s previous owners did not attempt to trim his nails or give him a bath so it is unknown how he will react to those events. Garfield enjoys being brushed, picked up/held, placed in a carrier and doesn’t mind being disturbed while resting/sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Garfield is described as friendly and shy with a high activity level. When at home Garfield will follow around his owners and likes to play with string. Garfield was kept indoors only and was fed both wet and dry food. Garfield is house trained and uses an uncovered litter box with clumping litter. Garfield would often scratch on the walls and was not given a scratching post so it is unknown if he will use one. Intake Behavior: Garfield began to growl, hiss and swat at staff. Garfield could not be collared or have picture taken on backdrop.

Other notes: He enjoys being brushed, picked up/held, placed in a carrier and doesn’t mind being disturbed while resting/sleeping. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: patient allowed to pet and touch, however, became difficult when handled and started to hiss and will bite. EVALUATION: Cage Condition: Cage is re-arranged Reaction to assessor: Garfield was lying down near the back of the cage and started hissing when the assessor approached him. Reaction when softly spoken to: Garfield stopped hissing then leaned forward to investigate. He sniffs then slowly rubs his body against the cage door. Reaction to cage door opening: Garfield is relaxed and eager to get out the kennel. Reaction to touch: Garfield meows softly and leans his head in for petting and attention. He’s very affectionate and is constantly rubbing up and giving the assessor head butts. Reaction to being picked up: Garfield is calm, relaxed and has a soft body when held. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Energetic VOCAL: Somewhat chatty CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet, Social, Affectionate BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Average Garfield interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for new or experienced cat parents.
