Intake condition EXAM REQ Intake Date 05/27/2017, From NY 10460, DueOut Date 05/27/2017,
Garfield is a 9 year old DSh whose owners could not keep him due to allergies. He has lived with his owners for his entire life and last visited the vet a year ago and was pronounced healthy.
Garfield is shy and hides when strangers come over but will come out after a few minutes and walk around. He is the same around children who he does not know but is calm and relaxed around children that come over often. He has never been around other cats before but hides when there are dogs around or if the come over until they leave. He has never bitten another person or animal before.
Garfield likes to scratch on furniture in the home and enjoys the plastic cover of sofas. He does not have litter box issues. He is easily frightened by loud noises and will run and hide. Garfield is not bothered by having his nails trimmed, being held or picked up or put into a carrier. He struggles when being brushed.
Garfield has a medium level of activity at home. He rarely seeks attention when home and has his own room in thehouse to sleep in. He enjoys playing with balls and is kept solely indoors. He is fed dry food thrice daily. He uses the litter box exclusively and has an uncovered litter box with fresh step clumping litter. He does not have a scratch post at home.
During his intake Garfield slowly exited his carrier and looked around then at counselor and started giving an earthquake of a pur when touched. He held his tail erect and allowed all handling for collaring, scanning and photograph.
At front of kennel as I approach, head-butting the kennel door with his fluffy tail raised. Comes forward and allows petting along his head and body, leaning in and purring loudly. He comes out of the kennel and lays in my lap. Allows belly rubs while purring. Doing great!
