I came into the shelter as a aco impound on 22-Feb-2018.
Garfield is at risk for medical reasons. Garfield is FeLV positive, and also suffers from hind limb lameness. behaviorally, we have no concerns for Garfield, whom we believe would be suitable to most homes.

[Spay/Neuter Waiver – Medical Condition] Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with hind leg lameness and the staff veterinarians are issuing a temporary waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment. Your veterinarian will advise you if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

No History : Stray Subjective: BARH Observed Behavior – Attention seeking, allows all handling Evidence of Cruelty seen – no Evidence of Trauma seen – no Objective P = WNL R = WNL BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Moderate dental staining, significant tartar at upper canines, mild gingivitis, halitosis PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated, bladder small, normal turgidity U/G: Male MSI: Ambulatory x 4, with significant hind end lameness, mild ataxia, low gait, normal CPs and withdrawal, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat, healing wound above left eye and at right medial carpus CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Hind end lameness – R/O traumatic injury vs other; FELV+ Prognosis: Fair Plan: Radiographs pending. Continue to monitor while at BACC. No treatment indicated at this time SURGERY: Temporary waiver due to lameness Radiographs: Pelvic lateral and VD: No obvious fractures of pelvis or long bones, possible decreased intervertebral spacing between T9-T10, no fractures seen in vertebral bodies; thoracic and abdominal cavity WNL

Recheck condition – hind end lameness S/O: BARH. Attention seeking. Allows all handling. Eating well. Small amount of blood in stool reported by medical staff. Large amount of urine on bedding EENT: Eyes clear, no ocular or nasal discharge, dental disease, pink mm HL: Normal RR/RE, no coughing/sneezing INTEG: unkempt, full coat, small area of alopecia above left eye and healing wound at right carpus MS: Ambulatory x 4, ataxic in hind end with low body posture, doesn’t appear painful on palpation or when ambulating UG: male A: FELV+, hind end lameness – R/O injury (possible decreased disk space between T9-T10) vs infection vs other P: Continue to monitor while at BACC. Fair prognosis

Cage Condition:: Cage is neat
Reaction to assessor:: Garfield is standing in front of his kennel with a relaxed body, ears forward as the assessor approaches.
Reaction when softly spoken to:: Garfield makes eye contact and vocalizes when spoken to softly.
Reaction to cage door opening:: Garfield remains calm as the cage door opens.
Reaction to touch:: Garfield allows petting along his head and body while leaning in and raising his rear into the air as the assessor’s hand passes along his lower back. He steps forward to head-butt the assessor’s hand with continued petting.
Reaction to being picked up:: Garfield remains calm when picked up and held.
