MANHATTAN CENTER
Hello, my name is Gandalf. My animal id is #9830. I am a desexed male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 9 years 2 weeks old. – P
I came into the shelter as a stray on 15-Oct-2017.
Gandolph is at risk due to being diagnosed with an Upper Respiratory Infection which is contagious to other cats. He will likely require in home care with a course of antibiotics. We recommend Gandolph go to an experienced cat home as he is more independent and may take longer to warm up to a new environment.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
KNOWN HISTORY: Gandalf was brought in as a stray, so we don’t have any behavioral history or tendencies in a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Subjective: nervous, but allows all handling ENRICHMENT NOTES: Resting in cubby, eyes dilated, but soft posture. Meowed quietly when spoken to. Lay in place when door opened, leaned into pets, lowered head, closed eyes. Cage Condition: Cage is neat Reaction to assessor: Gandalf remains neutral, resting in his cage cubby during the approach. Reaction when softly spoken to: Gandalf seems interested, alert with normal shape eyes. Reaction to cage door opening: Gandalf stands with tail up, ears relaxed and forward. Reaction to touch: Gandalf looks around his surroundings while accepting the touch, but seems to be unsure and began to slowly increase distance. He then leans into the assessor’s hand and purrs however, when continually stroked on the body he high pitched meowed, slowly taps the hand with no claws and gently places teeth to stop. Reaction to being picked up: He becomes antsy then jumps back into the cage. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Mellow VOCAL: Quiet CHARACTER TYPE: Sweet Curious Independent BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: Experience Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable BEHAVIOR SUMMARY: Gandalf may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
